I had a lesson with a new student today and it was…weird.

Like, this guy is in his 40’s, nice voice, seems like a nice guy, but I feel like he doesn’t understand boundaries.

I met him for the first time today at 7:00 at night in an empty church, he’s very outgoing but he made a sexist joke right off the bat. I was so taken aback! I didn’t laugh or anything but I didn’t shut him down completely either, and I was kinda mad at myself for not doing so, but I felt weird about it since he’s a paying student, ya know?

ALSO, he kept like, casually touching my back. Like, he would get something wrong and then he would laugh at himself and pat my back. It was very strange and it made me uncomfortable.

The thing is, I don’t know how to bring this up! It’s a strange dynamic to try and school someone on appropriate teacher/student relationships and personal boundaries. Ughhh…do not want!
